Forthcoming Training Sessions and Meetings

District Meetings

Meetings in April are as follows:

Bedford District
2 April 15:30-19.00   Colmworth (6)   Afternoon Ringing, Service, Tea, Quarterly Meeting, (NO Evening Ringing)

Biggleswade District
9 April  15:30-17.30   Meppershall (6)   Afternoon Ringing

Luton District
23 April  Barton le Clay (8)  Quarterly Meeting at 18.30, followed by Evening Ringing at 19.00

Please do support District Meetings. They are a great opportunity for

  • less experienced ringers to progress and to consolidate what they may have learned at training sessions.
  • more experienced ringers to support those who are learning - we were all learners once! - and ring something with other experienced ringers too!
  • having a sociable time!

Don't forget - you are welcome to go along to meetings in any District, not just your own!  For details of all forthcoming District events please see: https://www.bacbr.org.uk/districts/

Second Saturday Training

at the R J Sharp Ringing Centre
at St Andrews Biggleswade

Next sessions:
9 April and 14 May 10.00 - 12.00

Open to all Bedfordshire ringers.  The sessions are aimed at less experienced, mainly adult ringers, who can handle a bell but want to improve technique, confidence and progress;
For more details, please contact Philippa Whittington, pw48@btinternet.com or Sue Silver, vicepresident@bacbr.org.uk

Bedfordshire Young Ringers

Unfortunately at the moment we do not have enough young ringers to make these practices viable. We will be keeping this under review and hope to resurrect events for young ringers in the Autumn.

Association Surprise Major Practice

Next practice:
Saturday 21 May, 10.00 - 12.00
at All Saints, Clifton

These bi-monthly Surprise Major practices are advanced practices for experienced ringers who:

  • can already ring Surprise Major inside
  • or have rung the treble to Surprise Major and have learned Cambridge S Major
  • or have rung Surprise Minor and would like to extend this to Major,

Focus methods: Cambridge, Yorkshire, Superlative, Lessness, Bristol

Donation of £2 per ringer requested.

To assist planning, it would be very helpful if you could sign up in advance via Eventbrite please:
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/surprise-major-practice-tickets-310360936917

The first of these practices, held at Eaton Socon was very successful. 21 attendees from all 3 districts (and just across the border) rang some very well struck S Major, and we all felt a bit less rusty than we had beforehand! Thank you to everyone who came along!

Updates from the Central Council of Church Bellringers

Please keep an eye on the Central Council website for updates on the latest coronavirus guidance, plus lots of other helpful information!
https://cccbr.org.uk/

Although restrictions have now been lifted, but for the Association training courses and events above we will continue to follow Government advice, which is as follows:

  • We recommend that everyone attending has a recent negative Lateral Flow Test.
  • Please do not attend if you feel unwell.
  • Face coverings are no longer mandatory in any setting, including Places of Worship. You may wish to consider wearing a face covering in 'crowded, enclosed spaces’  (ie some ringing chambers) particularly if ventilation is poor. (We will open doors/windows where practical to improve ventilation)
