Ring a First in February

Have you decided what "First" you or your band would like to achieve? Ringing any First any time in February will be great.  However, this year there will be a particular focus on Quarter Peals, with a

Quarter Peal Firsts' Fortnight
between Monday 13 - Sunday 24 February.

This could be a First Quarter, a first in something you haven't rung to a Quarter Peal before or maybe a first as conductor.

It may be that this can be organised with your local ringers, in which case please do go ahead and arrange it!  However, if not, but you would like to attempt a Quarter Peal

  • either to achieve a First yourself (please check with your Tower Captain/Mentor that what you are hoping to achieve is a sensible target)
  • or you are an experienced ringer and willing to help others achieve a First by ringing in or organising a Quarter (or two!)

please click on the link below and complete the questionnaire. Requests will then be passed on to an appropriate organiser or we will try to organise centrally.

Alternatively, do please have a chat with me at your District ADM!

Please note: we can't guarantee to meet your requests, but we'll do our best with the resources available!

Ring for the King!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the bells of every tower in Bedfordshire could be rung for the Coronation of King Charles III on or around Saturday 6 May! Please put this date in your diaries (if you haven't already) so that you are available to ring at your own tower and to assist at others!

Record of Bedfordshire Association Peals

As you may be aware, in 1975 Michael Orme undertook considerable research to ascertain the total number of peals rung by the Bedfordshire Association up to 31 December 1974. More recently Richard Hillson has undertaken further research. Taking into account information which exists today, it appears that 2,189 peals (2,141 on tower bells and 48 on handbells) were rung by the Association by this date.

These peals can now all be viewed on BellBoard.  It likely of course that this figure may still be inaccurate, not least because some peals are likely to have been unrecorded or still awaiting discovery

A very big thank you to Richard for all his hard work on this!

If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet with details of the research, and / or might be interested in continuing Richard's research, please do get in touch!

Updates from the Central Council of Church Bellringers

Do keep an eye on the Central Council website for wider ringing news, including the very readable weekly President's Blog (that's the CC President, not Linda!), resources and helpful information!

BOOKING FOR EVENTS
We often ask you to commit to events in advance via Eventbrite so that we know that they are viable and to assist planning. If you have registered, we can then also easily communicate any changes or additional information to you.
We do realise that Eventbrite is not everyone's cup of tea! However, using it to register for events makes admin for the organisers SO much easier ... saving us time and effort which we can then put into organising more and better events!! It also enables us to find out other information from you to assist with organisation.
Eventbrite does not cost us anything and is quick and easy for you to use.
We will only ever use your data for the purpose which it was given and will never pass on to third parties.
