BEDFORDSHIRE ASSOCIATION OF CHURCH BELL RINGERS

Update

Latest news and information for all towers and ringers in Bedfordshire

March 2023
Please forward to other ringers in your tower and print off a copy for your tower notice board.

There's a lot happening in the next couple of months!
Please do pass on information as appropriate and respond if requested to do so!

Ring for the King!

Our aim: To ring the bells at every ringable tower in Bedfordshire on or around Saturday 6 May for the Coronation of King Charles III

Is your tower ready? Read on to find out two ways in which the Association can assist with your preparations to Ring for the King between Friday 5 May - Monday 8 May ... and how you can help other towers too!

1. Allocating ringers to towers where they are needed

Christine Williams has very kindly offered to co-ordinate Ringing for the King across the county, to ensure that (as far as possible) all towers have enough ringers to ring at some point during during the Coronation weekend. To enable her to do this, we need some information from you please:

  • All Tower Captains (or Tower Correspondents): So that we know which towers have enough ringers of their own and which are likely to need assistance, please complete the short Ring for the King Tower Survey by clicking on the link below. It will take only a couple of minutes to complete. Please complete by Friday 24 March

                 https://forms.gle/sqdc2AwEdpBgYX557

  • All Ringers: If you are willing to assist at towers in addition to your own, please complete the short Ring for the King Ringers' Survey below. Again, it will only take a couple of minutes to complete. Please complete by Friday 14 April

                  https://forms.gle/Kk5dGssZ7bvTnxnk7

The exact timings of the Coronation on 6 May are yet to be made public, and therefore your plans may not be finalised. However, please respond to the surveys above as best you can at this stage.

2. Ring for the King Bell Handling Sessions

We are organising a series of Saturday morning training sessions, aimed at anyone who is currently learning to ring at a tower in Bedfordshire but not yet able to ring independently. These concentrated bell handling sessions, with experienced tutors, are intended to supplement bell handling lessons at the students' home towers so that they are hopefully able to ring rounds at their own tower for the Coronation.

Each session will be for 90 minutes
Max 2 students per tutor.
We will be asking for a donation of £5 cash per session per student, for tower donation/any refreshments, payable on the day.
Signing up for these sessions is essential via the Eventbrite links below

We would ask that students sign up for a maximum of two sessions. Depending on demand, additional sessions may be possible. Details are as follows:

Updates from the Central Council of Church Bellringers

Do keep an eye on the Central Council website for wider ringing news, including the very readable weekly President's Blog (that's the CC President, not Linda!), resources and helpful information!   https://cccbr.org.uk

BOOKING FOR EVENTS
We often ask you to commit to events in advance via Eventbrite so that we know that they are viable and to assist planning. If you have registered, we can then also easily communicate any changes or additional information to you.
We do realise that Eventbrite is not everyone's cup of tea! However, using it to register for events makes admin for the organisers SO much easier ... saving us time and effort which we can then put into organising more and better events!! It also enables us to find out other information from you to assist with organisation.
Eventbrite does not cost us anything and is quick and easy for you to use.
We will only ever use your data for the purpose which it was given and will never pass on to third parties.
